PATZCUARO
THE FORMER CAPITAL OF THE MICHOACAN PROVINCE WAS FOUNDED BY THE BROTHERS VEAPANI II and PAVACUME II CHILDREN OF CURATAME I SHORTLY BEFORE 1360, WHO, AS WELL, WAS A DIRECT DESCENDANT OF THE CAUDILLO. HIRETI TICATAME, WHO TOWARDS YEAR 1200 GAVE BIRTH TO THE CHICHIMECA DINASTY KNOWN AS PUREPECHA AND WRONGLY CALLED TARASCO.
IN JULY 1522 WITH THE ARRIVAL OF SPANISH CRISTOBAL DE OLID TO MICHOACAN, THE CONQUEST OF THE NATIVE EMPIRE WASTED AWAY BY ROYAL DECREE OF SEPTEMBER 20TH OF 1537, DON VASCO DE QUIROGA TRANSFERED TO PATZCUARO THE SEAT OF THE BISHOPRIC, THAT WAS IN TZINTZUNTZAN, BEGINNING THIS WAY THE HISPANIZATION OF THE CITY. CARLOS V OF SPAIN, BY DECREE OF JULY 21ST OF 1553 GRANTED IT THE SHIELD OF ARMS.
